W&J Travels To Baltimore To Face Johns Hopkins In NCAA Playoffs
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- After earning the Presidents' Athletic Conference's automatic bid, Washington & Jefferson College drew Johns Hopkins University for the opening round of the 2012 NCAA Division III football playoffs on Saturday, November 17 in Baltimore, Md. Kickoff is set for noon at Homewood Field.
The Presidents are appearing in the NCAA playoffs for the 22nd time and own a 21-21 record in the postseason, including a 10-12 road record. Washington & Jefferson has posted a 13-8 record in first-round games (6-4 on road).
W&J is making its first appearance in the NCAA playoffs since 2009 when it suffered a 55-0 first-round loss to eventual national runner-up Mount Union. The Presidents defeated 13th-ranked Waynesburg 31-14 on the road Saturday to win a share of their first PAC championship since 2007.
The Blue Jays own a 9-1 record and are champions of the Centennial Conference after posting an 8-1 league record. JHU is 5-0 at home this year and has made the national tournament for the third time in the last four seasons. Last year, JHU hosted St. John Fisher in the first round and lost to the Cardinals by a 23-12 margin.
W&J and Johns Hopkins will be meeting for the first time in history. With Mike Sirianni as head coach, Washington & Jefferson has posted a 5-6 record in the NCAA playoffs.
