W&J Volleyball Falls in 2011 Opener in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team dropped its 2011 season opener on Thursday evening as Carlow edged the Presidents 3-2 (25-23, 18-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-9).

Freshman middle hitter Lindsey Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) led the Presidents in her collegiate debut with 12 kills and seven blocks.

Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Chorney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) added 10 kills and 16 digs, while sophomore setter Melody McNamara (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) dished out 37 assists.

Senior defensive specialist Alyssa Vukson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) posted 11 digs and delivered a team-high three service aces.

W&J opens its home schedule on Wednesday when it hosts Geneva in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference match.  The match is a “RED OUT” game on the W&J campus.
