W&J Water Polo Defeats SIU In Season Opener
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Senior Sarah Cull (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) scored five goals to lead the Washington & Jefferson College women’s water polo team to a 15-7 victory over Salem International in its season opener at the Henry Memorial Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
The Presidents led wire-to-wire and won their third-straight season-opening game. The win marked the first at W&J for Head Coach Jay O'Neil.
Sophomores Kelsey Leis (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield) and Catherine Villa (Poway Calif./Poway) both scored three goals, while freshman Sarah Boldt (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) and sophomore Margot Wummer (Havertown, Pa./Germantown Academy) each netted two.
Junior McKenzie Graf (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made three saves in goal, while splitting time with freshman Charlotte Lima (Brooklyn, N.Y./Choate Rosemary Hall), who made six stops.
W&J is back in action on March 16th against Grove City (1:30 pm) and Chatham (8:30 pm).
