W&J Water Polo Stars Selected To All-America Team
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College sophomore driver Sara Boldt (Grand Haven, Mich./East Kentwood) and freshman center Rachel Clauss (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) were both recently selected to the 2013 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Women’s All-America Team. Both student-athletes were honorable-mention choices.
A total of 14 NCAA Division III players were either first- or second-team honorees, while 24 others joined the W&J duo on the honorable-mention. Pomona-Pitzer swept the individual hardware as Sarah Tuggy was ACWPC Player of the Year, while the Sagehens’ Alex Rodriguez garnered the National Coach of the Year award.
Boldt and Clauss helped the Presidents win a school-record tying 11 matches this spring and earn third place at the CWPA Division III Women’s Water Polo Championship Tournament.
The CWPA Freshman of the Year, Clauss was the Presidents’ leading scorer with 36 goals and 14 assists for 50 points in 27 matches. She also drew a team-high 53 kickouts, while tying for the team lead with 51 steals.
Clauss was the second-straight President to earn the league’s rookie of the year honor as she followed Boldt, who claimed last year’s award.
Boldt ranked third on the team with 34 goals, while tying Clauss with 51 steals. She also dished out 11 assists and drew 25 ejections during 26 matches. Boldt was a CWPA first team all-conference selection this year and recording second-team laurels in 2012. She enters her junior season with 61 career goals.
