W&J Win Streak Extended To Six (10/5)

WASHINGTON, Pa. - Washington & Jefferson College sophomores Sarah Zeh (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Cheyenne Mangold (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas/Texas Military Institute) both scored as the Presidents extended their win streak to six after defeating Westminster 2-0 in PAC women’s soccer action Wednesday at Alexandre Stadium. The Presidents (8-3, 2-0) have now also won seven consecutive regular-season conference home games.
Zeh struck first 21 seconds before the first half ended as she headed home a corner kick cross from classmate Holly Shipley (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland).
The Presidents hung on to the one-goal lead until the 72nd minute when junior Chrissy Marcius (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) passed to Mangold in the box, who then deposited her team-leading eighth goal of the year. Freshman Tatum Marucci (Youngstown, Ohio/Poland Seminary) also assisted on the goal.
Freshman goalie Heather Betancourt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle) earned her first career shutout by making three saves. Jenn Cantella stopped seven shots for the Lady Titans (3-7-1, 1-1 PAC), who were outshot by a 16-10 margin.
W&J hopes to up its win streak to seven matches on Sunday when traveling to Latrobe to battle Saint Vincent at 3:00 pm.
