W&J Wins Twice Saturday In Erie
ERIE, Pa. – Freshman Patrick Fredrick (San Francisco, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) scored seven goals to help the Washington & Jefferson College men’s water polo team earn Saturday victories over Penn State-Behrend (17-9) and Gannon (16-11).
The Presidents (3-7) snapped a three-match losing streak to Gannon, earning their first win over the Golden Knights since Sept. 11, 2011. Junior Carl Krause (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) led the Presidents with five goals in the win, while sophomore Kevin Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) added three.
Fredrick and junior Mike Magdic (Franklin Park, Pa./North Allegheny) both netted two goals, while four other Presidents got into the scoring column.
Fredrick fired in five goals earlier in the afternoon against Behrend, while freshman Nick Willison (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) pumped in four. Krause and Magdic finished with a pair.
Senior Dan Francisco (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) stopped eight shots in the goal against Gannon, while junior Chris DeNunzio (Greenwich, Conn./Canterbury) posted seven-save performances in both games.
W&J plays at home for the first time this season next Saturday with matches against Monmouth (9:00 am) and Notre Dame College (1:00 pm). The NDC match with serve as the team’s Senior Day game.
