W&J Women's Golf Opens Season In Erie
HARBOR CREEK, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's golf team placed eighth of nine teams in its season-opening event, the Evann Parker Memorial, hosted by Mercyhurst College at Downing Golf Club.
Wheeling Jesuit won the tournament with 312 strokes, while Mercyhurst placed second with 325. Gannon (326), Seton Hill (333), Clarion (343), Ursuline (343), Charleston (345), W&J (365) and Westminster (382) rounded out the standings.
The individual medalist was Wheeling Jesuit's Kasey Frazier, who shot a one-over par score of 73 on the 5,809 yard course. A total of 60 golfers were in the field.
W&J's top finishers were senior Catherine Robinson (Troy, Ill./Triad) and sophomore Jennifer Suder (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley), who tied for 30th place with 88 strokes.
Freshman Amanda Halula (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) tied for 43rd place with 92 strokes, while junior Katelynn Vannoy (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) notched 97 strokes and placed 52nd. Senior Ellen Schmitt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) shot 102 to finish 55th.
The Presidents have two weeks to prepare for the PAC Fall Championship (Sept. 24-25) at Oak Tree Country Club in West Middlesex, Pa.
