W&J Women's Golf Places Fifth At Gettysburg Invite
ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College claimed fifth place in the seven-team field at the Gettysburg Spring Women's Golf Invitational on Sunday at Hanover Country Club (Par 72, 5,805 yards). The Presidents totaled 833 strokes in the 36-hole event.
The host Bullets won the team title with 701 strokes (349-352). McDaniel was second with 736 shots followed by Susquehanna (776), Dickinson (789), W&J (421-412), Eastern (857) and Ursinus (875). Bridgewater and Stevenson competed on an individual basis.
Gettysburg's Kara McNulty ran away from the field by eight strokes to earn the medalist award with a two-day score of 160 (78-82). Morgan Koopman of McDaniel was the runner-up following back-to-back rounds of 84.
The Presidents were once again led by sophomore Jennifer Suder (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley), who placed 13th in the 40-woman field with 191 shots (93-98).
Freshman Amanda Halula (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) totaled 204 strokes (99-105) to claim 23rd place, while junior Katelyn Vannoy (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) improved by 13 shots from Saturday to Sunday to notch 26th place with 211 shots (112-99).
Senior Ellen Schmitt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) carded rounds of 117 and 110 to place 35th, while freshman Kylie McKenna (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) finished 39th (129-141--270).
W&J is back in action next weekend at the 36-hole Mercyhurst Invitational at Dowling Golf Club.
