W&J Women's Golf Takes Fifth At Westminster

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson placed fifth of eight teams Monday at Westminster's Mary Cleland Eckles Women's Golf Invitational.  The Presidents shot a four-woman score of 413. 

Seton Hill won the team competition with 354 strokes behind medalist Morgan Miller's round of 83.  Clarion was second with 377 strokes, while Malone (378), Westminster (406), W&J, Point Park (416), Grove City (440) and Saint Vincent (459) rounded out the standings on the 5,800-yard course (Par 72). 

Freshman Jennifer Suder (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) shot 99 and tied for 17th place in the 47-golfer field to lead the Presidents. 

Senior Tara Fatula (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) was 19th with 100 strokes, while sophomore Katelynn Vannoy (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) turned in 102 shots to place 23rd.  Junior Ellen Schmitt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) posted 112 strokes and finished 37th. 

W&J travels to Erie, Pa., this weekend to compete in the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational.
