Wolverines Outlast Presidents In CWPA Play
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Ashley Parks scored three goals to help Grove City hold off Washington & Jefferson 8-6 in women’s water polo action on Saturday night at the Henry Memorial Natatorium. Earlier in the day, the Presidents were upended by Mercyhurst 12-4.
The Wolverines (3-1) never trailed after leading 2-0 after one period and 5-1 at halftime.
W&J freshman Rachel Clauss (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) led all scorers with four goals, while junior Margot Wummer (Havertown, Pa./Germantown Academy) and sophomore Charlotte Lima (Brooklyn, N.Y./Choate Rosemary Hall) both added one.
Lima also stopped six shots in the cage during the second and fourth quarters, while senior goalkeeper McKenzie Graf (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) made five saves during the other 16 minutes. Graf was honored before the game as the Presidents’ lone senior.
Four different Presidents scored in the loss to the Lakers during the afternoon. Graf and Lima both contributed four saves.
W&J travels across country next weekend to compete in five matches in California starting with Saturday’s matches against Chapman (1:20 pm EDT) and Pomona-Pitzer (6:40 pm EDT).
