Women’s Swimming Cruises Past York; Men Edged Late By Spartans

YORK, Pa. - The Washington & Jefferson women’s swimming team breezed York (Pa.) by 157-97, while the men’s swimming team was edged out in the final race by the Spartans 132-130 at the York Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  Six pool records were set by the Presidents during the meet. 

Eight different women’s swimmers won events for the Presidents, led by senior C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), and freshmen Charlotte Lima (Brooklyn, N.Y./Choate Rosemary Hall) and Jessica Sweitzer (Laurel, Md./Seton Keough), who all claimed four events.

Corcoran finished first in the 50 breaststroke (31.76) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.94).

Lima swam to first in the 50 backstroke (29.12) and the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.45, while Sweitzer won the 50 freestyle (25.39) and the 100 freestyle (54.31, pool record).

The team of Corcoran, Lima, Sweitzer and sophomore Zoe Levenson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) came out on top in the 200 medley relay (1:51.68) and set a pool record.  The trio was joined by senior Ellie Tecza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) in winning the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.86) in pool-record fashion.

Freshman Sara Boldt (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) set a pool record during her victory in the 1650 freestyle (18:43.53), while senior Brittany Vogel (Butler, Pa./Butler) swam to a pool-record triumph in the 400 IM (4:45.85). 

Six different men’s swimmers earned first-place finishes, led by senior Jonathan Weeks (Donora, Pa./Ringgold), who was victorious on three occasions.

Weeks won the 50 butterfly (24.40) and the 100 butterfly (55.51).  He teamed with seniors Keyton Kalakewich (Edwards, Colo./Charleroi) and Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and junior Joey Weiland (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.51).

Kalakewich, Rish and Weiland were all victorious in two events.  Senior Michael Boutwell (Winchester, Va./John Handley) claimed the 1650 freestyle (17:44.37) and set a pool record in the process. 

The W&J men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams are back in action on December 2 when travelling to Grove City for the Grove City Winter Invitational.
