Women's Basketball Earns School's First PAC Sportsmanship Award

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents’ Athletic Conference announced the Washington & Jefferson College women’s basketball team as the school’s first recipient of a PAC Team Sportsmanship Award Thursday.
The PAC Team Sportsmanship Award began in the 2008-09 sports season as an effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among conference teams. The awards recognize each of the 19 PAC-sponsored, varsity sports. Each PAC team votes for the conference team in its sport which displayed the highest level of sportsmanship.
The award is sponsored by the PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), a committee comprised of student-athletes from each member institution that assemble to provide insight on the student-athlete experience.
Others to earn the award during the winter season were: Thiel College men’s basketball, Saint Vincent College men’s swimming & diving and Westminster College women’s swimming & diving.
W&J finished its season last week with a 52-42 loss at Waynesburg in the PAC Tournament Quarterfinals. The Red & Black finished 9-17 overall and 6-10 in conference play. The Presidents are led by Head Coach Jina DeRubbo, who owns a 273-112 record (.709) in 14 years as a collegiate head coach.
