Women's Tennis Recipients of PAC Sportsmanship Award
WASHINGTON, Pa. – For the first time in its history, the Washington & Jefferson women’s tennis team received the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Award for the 2013 fall season.
The PAC Team Sportsmanship Awards program was instituted during the 2008-09 sports season and is an ongoing effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among conference teams. The award is sponsored by the PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a group comprised of student-athletes from each member institution that assembles to provide insight on the student-athlete experience.
The Presidents collected eight wins on the year, their best win total in nearly a decade. During six of the eight W&J victories, the team lost only one match or fewer. At the PAC Championships, Washington & Jefferson earned sixth place out of the 10 competing teams.
Three Presidents, Jenna Supp (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg), Courtney Brennan (New Kensington, Pa./Valley), and Brianna Morrison (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) all won their opening singles matches, marking the most Presidents to advance in a bracket since three also won quarterfinal matches in 2007. Supp placed third in the No. 3 singles flight.
