Staniscia and McLain Named ECAC Baseball All-Stars

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College sophomores right fielder Josh Staniscia (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) and third baseman Kyle McLain (East Amherst, N.Y./Canisius) were selected to the 2012 ECAC Division III Baseball South Region All-Star Team on Thursday. 

Staniscia was a first-team choice, while McLain was a second-team honoree.  Both players were also recognized last month on the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Mideast Region Team. 

A First Team D3baseball.com and Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, Staniscia led the Presidents’ Athletic Conference with 67 hits (ranked 54th nationally) and 102 total bases, while finishing with a .404 batting average (4th in PAC and 80th in NCAA D-III).

He was second in the league in slugging percentage (.614) and ranked third in runs (46, 70th in NCAA) and RBI (42).  Staniscia’s eight triples were sixth in NCAA Division III and he did not make an error in 79 chances. 

McLain finished with a .391 batting average which ranked 6th in PAC and 133rd in NCAA Division III.  He was third in the league with 63 hits and sixth with 38 runs batted in.  McLain scored 35 runs, stole 10 bases and posted a .448 on-base percentage.

McLain’s defense helped W&J post the 20th-best fielding percentage (.967) in the country.
