Staniscia And Trushel Named To D3Baseball.com All-Region Squads
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College sophomore right fielder Josh Staniscia (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) was recently selected to the D3baseball.com All-Mideast Region First Team, while senior right-hander Dave Trushel (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) earned second team honors.
The duo helped lead W&J (36-10) to its third NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in the last four seasons. The Presidents won a school-record 36 games and claimed the Presidents’ Athletic Conference regular-season title.
Staniscia, an All-PAC First Team selection for a second-straight season, was second in the league in hitting with a .404 batting average. He set a new single-season school record and was tied for third in NCAA Division III with eight triples, while leading the conference in total bases (102). Staniscia also finished in the top-5 among PAC batters in slugging percentage (.614), runs scored (46), hits (67), and RBI (42). He did not make an error in 79 chances in right field.
Trushel was named PAC Pitcher of the Year and was an All-PAC selection for the third time in his career. He tied a Presidents’ single-season record with nine victories, while setting a new W&J benchmark with eight complete games. Trushel posted a 2.96 ERA and struck out 59 batters in 85.0 innings. Opposing hitters batted just .233 against him.
Trushel completed his career second all-time with 25 victories, 158 strikeouts, 266.2 innings pitched and 11 complete games. He is the Presidents’ career leader with 53 appearances.
Tim Saunders of Marietta was named Mideast Region Player of the Year, while teammate Austin Blaski earned Pitcher of the Year laurels.
