The Collected Works of Phillis Wheatley (Oxford)

The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson (Little, Brown)

The Yale Gertrude Stein

You will also be reading essays, some of which will be on reserve at the library. (Since you will want your own copies of many of the essays, you should anticipate photocopying costs.) See the schedule for reading assignments and dates.

Your grade in the course will be based on the following:

Paper 1 15%
Paper 2 25%
Participation 15%
Presentation 10%
Midterm 15%
Final 20%

Written Work: You will be writing two papers, one short and one longer. Due dates are on the schedule.

Presentation: This assignment will be made the first week of class.

Exams: Both exams will be open book.

Participation and Attendance: The success of the class depends on the responsibility you take for it. You should be at class and should be actively involved in the class. If you miss more than three classes (for any reason) your final grade will go down a third of a grade for every absence over three. (For example, 4 absences would reduce a B to a B- or a B- to a C+.)
