Impact your community. Impact your life.
Who We Are
Washington & Jefferson College aims to "graduate men and women of uncommon integrity, competence, and maturity who are effective lifelong learners and responsible citizens, and who are prepared to contribute substantially to the world in which they live."
As part of the college's goal to mold successful citizens of the world, the Office of Volunteer Programs works to educate and engage our students in meaningful service experiences (local, national and international level) that will inspire them to create change.
What We Do
Program Goals
-
Expose students to a multitude of service experiences
-
Educate and engage students in meaningful conversations regarding social justice issues
-
Promote critical and creative thinking amongst our students
-
Train students to be civic leaders both on-campus and in the community
-
Create sustainable community partnerships
How?
National Service - Many of our students participate in larger scale volunteer opportunities as part of national or state initiatives, were they are volunteering regularly. Sometimes for over 300 hours in a year! The programs include AmeriCorps, America Reads, and Interfaith Youth Corps.
President's Service Series - Students can volunteer for one-time events and programs, each celebrating volunteerism and getting students involved in their community in different ways. Some events are a single day, a week long, or spartically thoughtout the year. We offer the Leadership & Service Institute, the First Year Day of Service, MLK Day the W&J Way, and more!
Service Organizations - W&J has numerous ways in which students can get involved in service and leadership through student organizations. Although we have many organizations that have an emphasis in volunteerism, each is unique in its own way! For information on our organizations, click here.
