Our athletes at W&J are highly committed to service and philanthropy. Not only do teams volunteer on a regular basis in the community as a group, but opportunities for service go above and beyond that as well.
There are many student athletes who are regular volunteers in programs such as the AmeriCorps Community Fellows Program, members of service organizations, or even volunteer and participate in philanthropic efforts as athletic groups outside of their individual teams through the Student Athletic Advisory Council.
In the winter of 2012, W&J SAAC, along with the PAC SAAC, took part in the Third Annual Pittsburgh Polar Bear Plunge, held at Heinz Field. Eighty three students and advisors from the PAC SAAC jumped into the “cool” waters of the Allegheny River and were “freezin' for a reason” on December 2, 2012. The PAC SAAC was able to raise over $4,000 of the total $329,000 raised from this single event, all to benefit more than 20,000 Special Olympics Pennsylvania athletes.
