W&J Softball Swept In Season Finale

MUSKINGUM, Ohio -- Washington & Jefferson College's 2012 softball season came to a close on Wednesday in Ohio when Muskingum swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Presidents with 11-5 and 11-2 (five innings) victories. 

Muskingum (23-19) scored in every inning of game one and held a 3-0 lead after two innings.  W&J tied the game in the third after RBI base hits from freshman first baseman Paige Deley (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) and junior designated player Erin Shuman (Chester, W.Va./Oak Glen).  The Muskies answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning and used a four-run sixth to seal the win. 

Junior center fielder D.J. Ufolla (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry) added a run-scoring single in the fifth for W&J, while freshman third baseman Sadie Marak (Butler, Pa./Butler) singled home a run in the sixth. 

Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Zur (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) led the Presidents' lineup with three hits, while Marak, Deley and Shuman all had two hits.  Ufolla knocked in a pair of runs.  Sophomore pitcher Madison Rotto (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) pitched six innings and allowed seven earned runs on 15 hits in the loss.  She struck out two Muskies. 

Apryl Patterson paced the Muskies with a 5-for-5 day at the plate (two doubles) and three RBI. 

Muskingum led 9-0 after two innings in game two and limited the Presidents' lineup to five base hits.  W&J also committed five errors which led to three unearned runs. 

W&J's first run came in the third when Deley singled home Marak, while freshman second baseman Chalese Wilson (Washington, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) drew a walk in the fourth and scored on an error.  Rotto smacked her fourth double for the Presidents' lone extra-base hit.  Hannah Reese had two hits and three RBI for the Muskies.
