W&J Track & Field Teams Compete At ECAC Championships
TROY, N.Y. -- Washington & Jefferson College had 12 student-athletes in competition Thursday and Friday at the 2012 ECAC Division III Track & Field Championships hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The men's squad placed 47th of 61 teams, while the women's team tied for 49th place in the 54-team field.
Ithaca won the women's team championship with 68 points, while Bates earned the men's crown with 61 points.
W&J was led by senior Taylor Hockman’s (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) fifth-place finish Thursday in the triple jump (14.38 meters). He also placed eighth in the long jump (6.85 meters) on Friday.
The women’s squad was paced by record-breaking freshman Kristen Galligan (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson), who claimed seventh place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:44.43.
Senior C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), who entered the week with the nation’s ninth-best javelin throw, earned 10th place in the javelin with a best mark of 38.70 meters.
Junior Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) took 12th place in the 5,000 meters (15:10.30), while senior Greg French (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) posted 15th-place showings in the 110- (15.93) and 400-meter hurdles (55.58).
