Summary
The Assistant Director, as an integral member of the Center for Professional Pathways, will provide student opportunities to develop skills leading to professional readiness and preparation for a fulfilling life. The Center and Assistant Director will provide the interface for developing and articulating the NACE core career competencies as a part of an innovative four-year learning experience, guided by outstanding teaching, holistic advising and mentoring, and ethical leadership development.
The Assistant Director offers individual career counseling, internship and job-search advising to students and alumni, developing and presenting workshops, and building positive relationships with students, employers, faculty, staff, co-curricular advisors, alumni and parents. The assistant director also serves as primary administrator of the Center's technology systems, helping in data collection, management, and reporting of the First Destination Survey a report on recent graduates' outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Career Development/Programming:
- Coordinates targeted programming for graduating students Embark Program
- Assists students in clarifying academic and career goals through individual career counseling.
- Administers and interprets career assessment inventories e.g. MBTI, COPS, Focus2.
- Assists students in using online career resources Handshake, Focus2, LinkedIn, etc..
- Participates in the design and delivery of career-related workshops, programs and panels.
- Helps students develop and refine resume writing, interviewing, and job-searching skills.
- Assists with recorded mock interviews.
- Develops and delivers workshops and career-related programs, including new initiatives on how best to utilize digital resources for career discovery/job-search purposes.
Technology:
- Develops and manages the digital presence web content, internal and external web pages, and social media for the Center for Professional Pathways.
- Acts as liaison with IT Department and supports Student Life writers and web editors as needed.
- Supervises student workers on Internet and technology issues including social media maintenance and updates.
- Advises associate dean in the selection process for acquisition of career-related software and department technology-related issues.
- Offers user support and training to professional and student staff on how to use educational and administrative information systems. Develops presentations and user guides.
- Assists with design and data collection for the First Destination Survey - report on recent graduates' outcomes.
- Assists staff in design & management of a file-based database management systems, including policies and procedures for data collection and management.
- Establishes priorities, policies and procedures for data collection and management.
- Develops and improves mechanisms for tracking and reporting data/statistics, both for internal and external consumption.
Marketing/Promotion:
- Participates in the planning and promotion of the Center for Professional Pathways to students, alumni, faculty and employers through wide-array of marketing efforts.
- Assists with the updating of existing marketing materials or developing new materials aimed at informing employers about our students, programs and services.
- As designated by the associate dean, represents the Center for Professional Pathways on College committees, with area college consortia, professional conferences, and on-site sessions hosted by employers.
- Serves as liaison to student groups, clubs, and organizations.
- Coordinates submissions for office publications and electronic communications.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Serves as the primary contact for funded opportunities related to internships and professional development i.e. Magellan Franklin Internship Awards, etc.. Coordinate the promotion, selection, and administration of these opportunities. Liaise with members of the selection committee.
- Serves on various College committees as assigned
- Evening and weekend attendance at College functions as required
Qualifications
Education:
- Master's degree preferred - in student personnel/higher education management, counseling, education, or related field.
Experience:
- Two to three years of professional experience in career development and/or job-search counseling; or the equivalent.
- Intermediate proficiency working with personal computers, related hardware/software, webpage maintenance and development.
- Experience with database development and management.
- Recruiting experience.
