The Department of Computing and Information Studies CIS at Washington & Jefferson College is searching for a colleague with interdisciplinary interests in the field of computing for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The CIS program offers an interdisciplinary computing major with tracks in data science, digital media, computer science, interaction design, and web and mobile technologies. We especially welcome applicants with expertise in data analytics, digital humanities, or mobile or media development to support these current tracks or grow the program in new directions. The CIS program at W&J views computing as a liberal arts discipline and is committed to providing inclusive classroom experiences and collaborating with other disciplines and programs including Gender and Women's Studies, Professional Writing, Art, Music, Environmental Studies, History, Communication Arts, Economics, and other social and natural sciences. We actively invite applications from women and members of other historically underrepresented groups.
Experience teaching introductory or non-major courses with a significant computing or technology component is desired. The position includes opportunities to teach the history of technology; introductory programming, database, or web development; upper-level courses in your area of specialty; as well as to supervise undergraduate research. Undergraduate advising and college-wide service are also requirements. This position will start in Fall 2022; a Ph.D. or terminal degree in any discipline with significant computational experience is required. Preference will be given to those without traditional computing PhDs; applicants with a computer science or related PhD should address their interdisciplinary work in their materials. Current faculty in the department hold PhDs in Computer Science, English, Learning Technologies, and Physics. Degree expected prior to the start of the appointment.
