A discussion course that explores texts arranged, by theme, drawn from several countries, or, presented in translation. In addition, it teaches, the art of close reading and analytical writing., Topics in different semesters might include Asian, American Literature, Irish Literature, Speculative, Fiction, or Justice and Revenge. Jane Austen is one of the English-speaking world’s most famous, and beloved writers-and probably also one of the most widely, adapted. We will read and analyze three of her novels: Pride and, Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Emma. Next, we will look at, how others have transformed these 200-year-old books into, different media such as films, television serials, stage plays,, Marvel comics, and video games. Finally, we will visit some, recent reworkings that shift the plots and settings to the, present day, different countries, and even alternate universes., The course concludes with students creating their own Austen, adaptations.
