This course will focus on the fundamental mechanisms that are adopted by all viruses to replicate, survive and infect a host cell. The diversity of various classes of viruses will be studied. In particular, the molecular basis of alternative reproductive cycles from DNA and RNA viruses will be explored. The interactions of viruses with their hosts, the evolution of viruses, as well as disease mechanism and how to combat viral diseases will be discussed through case studies and peer-reviewed articles. This course includes a lab period.

Offered: Alternating Spring
