If you are looking for a little time away from campus, there are a variety of things to do in the area surrounding W&J. Below is a sampling of the many great things to do in and around the Washington and Pittsburgh areas.

Campus Shuttles

W&J provides several shuttles at little or no cost to students. For more visit the Campus Activities page.

Freedom Transit

Freedom Transit provides local transportation as well as transportation to and from Pittsburgh. For any questions, please call 724-223-2442.

Washington & Surrounding Area Shopping & Dining

Trinity Point Shopping Center

Located very close to campus, Trinity Point shopping center is home to Walmart, Sam’s Club, Gamestop, Starbucks and various other shopping and dining venues.

Strabane Square Shopping Center

Located close to campus and across Rte 19 from the Trinity Point shopping area, Strabane Square is home to several shopping and dining venues, including Giant Eagle, Target, TGI Fridays, and Michaels.

Washington Crown Center

A shopping mall located a short drive from W&J, Crown Center features a variety of stores including Macys, Marshalls, and Sears. The mall is also home to a Regal Cinemas location. W&J students can get discounted movie tickets to Regal Cinemas at the Hub. Website

Tanger Outlets

Located a short drive away and just off I-79, Tanger Outlets is a popular local shopping destination and home to dozens of outlet stores. Website

Main Street Farmer’s Market

This local farmers market is just a few blocks away from campus and occurs every Thursday from 3:00pm – 6:00 pm (spring through fall). Website

Washington Wild Things

The Washington Wild Things are a minor league team that play at the CONSOL Energy Park. Tickets and concessions are reasonably priced and the ballpark is located within a short drive from campus, right next to Washington Crown Center. Website

Washington Park

Washington Park is a short drive from campus and features several great facilities including pavilions, baseball fields, and a pool. The park is also home to the PONY League World Series. Website

Mingo Creek County Park

If you are looking for some nice trails near campus, then Mingo Creek County Park is a good destination. It is only a short drive from campus and features one the area’s famous covered bridges! Website

Montour Trail

The Montour Trail is an expansive trail that runs for miles through the Pittsburgh area. It also connects up to the Great Allegheny Passage which runs 330 miles from Pittsburgh to Washington D.C. There are several trailhead points around Washington and Allegheny Counties. Website

Downtown Pittsburgh Shopping & Dining

Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Carnegie Museum of Art, Carnegie Science Center and Andy Warhol Museum are all fun places to explore while you are downtown. W&J students get buy one get one free tickets. Stop by the Hub for more information. Website

Pittsburgh Cultural District

A great place to catch a play, musical, or orchestral performance, the Cultural District is a staple of the Pittsburgh experience. Website

South Side Works

Located in Pittsburgh’s South Side region, the “Works” is a popular destination to catch a great meal or do a little shopping. Popular destinations here include the Hofbrauhaus and the Cheesecake Factory. There is also a great movie theater located in the main square, which could complete a fun date night! Website

Strip District

One of Pittsburgh’s most iconic neighborhoods, the Strip District is home to dozens of local vendors. It is also a great place to enjoy some of the best fresh foods in the region. Website

Market Square

Located in the heart of downtown, Market Square is home to a collection of great restaurants and is host to many events, concerts, and rallies. Website

South Hills Area Shopping & Dining

South Hills Village Mall (Bethel Park)

Located about a half hour drive from W&J, the South Hills Village mall and surrounding area has a plethora of different stores and restaurants for you to explore. Website

The Galleria of Mt. Lebanon (Mt. Lebanon)

Just down the road from the South Hills Village mall, the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon features a collection of premium shops and restaurants. Website

Wheeling, WV Area Shopping & Dining

The Highlands

A shopping and dining location about a half hour drive from W&J, the Highlands’ biggest attraction is its massive Cabelas store. Website

Oglebay Resort

A popular regional destination, Oglebay has a golf course, restaurant, and even a zoo. It is also home to various concerts and events throughout the year. One of the most famous events is the annual “Winter Festival of Lights” in which the entire resort becomes a holiday light show! Website
