Washington and Jefferson College is home to nine Greek Letter organizations. The five fraternities that are recognized on campus are Alpha Tau Omega, Beta Theta Pi, Delta Tau Delta, Phi Delta Theta and Phi Kappa Psi. The four NPC sororities recognized at W&J are Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi. All of our organizations reside on campus in the College-owned Chestnut Street housing.
The Greek Community at W&J is based on four standards that fraternities and sororities everywhere strive to achieve:
- Academic Excellence
- Service to the Community
- Friendship for Life
Our organizations seek members that reflect a commitment to these values. Approximately 40% of W&J students are members of a fraternity or sorority. During their time at W&J Greeks are members of the Student Government Association Executive Board, many W&J Athletic Teams, Resident Assistants, Homecoming Queens and Kings, members of honor societies and writers for the Red & Black newspaper.
Students are eligible to join a fraternity or sorority after completing one semester at W&J and earning a GPA that meets the requirement of the chapter they wish to join (GPA requirements vary for each chapter, but no student may join a fraternity or sorority if his/her cumulative GPA is below a 2.50). Fraternities hold recruitment events during the fall semester to meet interested potential new members, and women wishing to join a sorority participate in the formal recruitment process that begins at the beginning of the spring semester
The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life serves as a liaison among the fraternity and sorority chapters on campus, the College faculty and staff, parents, alumni and the inter/national organizations. We provide educational programming, resources, leadership opportunities and service events to attain universal growth for our Greek community. We support the Greek organizations by serving as advocates for the students, advising the chapter leaders and also challenging them to live their life by their fraternal values and ideals. Please stop by the office, or email email@example.com for more information!
