We are delighted to welcome you to Washington & Jefferson College! We are so pleased that you have selected W&J for your undergraduate education and look forward to having you join and shape our campus community.
The Office of International Student Initiatives is here to welcome and support you during your four years of study at W&J. The office is directed by Dr. Dana Poole, and the office provides immigration advising, oversees arrival and orientation and provides programming opportunities throughout the year. We are committed to helping you during your transition to life on a U.S college campus and along the way during your path to successful completion of a degree here at W&J.
Although you will need to complete the same processes and forms as all other first-year students, there are a few areas that are particular to international students. Please review the information below, and complete the relevant documents located on the W&J Gateway.
Unless you are a United States citizen (including dual citizenship with another country) or US resident alien, you will need to obtain an F-1 visa in your home country before coming to W&J. In order to apply for your F-1 visa, you will need an I-20 form, which the Office of International Student Initiatives will issue to you. If you have not taken steps to receive this document please contact email@example.com.
To save time - and room in your luggage - you may wish to take advantage of our linens purchasing service, so that bedding and bath towels will be waiting in your room for you upon your arrival at W&J. If you would like to use the linens purchasing service, please complete a linens request form by August 1, to indicate whether or not you would like to use this service. Please note: There is a fee of $60 for the linen service, which will be applied to your student account. If we do not receive a linens request from you by the deadline, we will assume that you do not wish to use this service, and will not order linens on your behalf.
Transportation to W&J from the Pittsburgh International Airport
We recommend that all first year international students arrive on campus on their designated arrival date, which is Wednesday, August 21. If you arrive any earlier than your designated arrival date, you will be required to make alternative housing and transportation arrangements.
If you plan to arrive on Wednesday, August 21– please complete the airport shuttle sign up no later than August 10. This is a shuttle service provided for students to take you from the Pittsburgh International Airport to W&J Campus. It is free! And our international orientation ambassadors will be at the airport and on campus to help you find the shuttle and get settled in your room on campus.
International Student Orientation
You can arrive on campus anytime on Wednesday, August 21. There is a mandatory (required) orientation for all new international students which is scheduled for Thursday, August 22 and Friday, August 23. Orientation is a wonderful opportunity to meet other international students, and we cover a range of academic and cultural topics that will help you as you transition to W&J. International students will then join other incoming students for New Student Orientation.
