WASHINGTON, PA (Oct. 24, 2018)–Olin Fine Arts Center will host two engaging events this week at Washington & Jefferson College (W&J).

On Thursday, Oct. 25, The Core Ensemble will perform “Los Valientes” in Olin Theater as part of the W&J Art Series.

“Los Valientes” is a chamber music theatre production for solo actor and trio (cello, piano, percussion), exploring the artistic and political passions of Diego Rivera, the unwavering commitment to human rights of Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero and the pursuit of social justice by Mexican American desperado Joaquin Murrieta, aka Zorro. Text is by Jose Cruz Gonzalez. Music for this show features songs and concert/vernacular music by a wide range of Latin American composers including Astor Piazzolla and Osvaldo Golijov.

General admission tickets are available at the door for $12. Senior citizens 60+, alumni & non-W&J students tickets are $10, and tickets for children under 12 are $7. Learn more about the group at www.coreensemble.com.

On Friday, Oct. 26, Cristin Millet will open her gallery “Ex-Utero” in Olin Fine Art Gallery. Friday will feature an opening reception and artist talk from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The gallery runs through Dec. 2, but will be closed for Thanksgiving break Nov. 21-25.

Millett focuses on medical history, specifically the human reproductive system. Using a variety of materials, Millett creates objects and installations that give insight into societal attitudes about the female body and question taboos surrounding sexuality.

Raised in El Paso, Texas, Cristin Millett currently lives and works in State College, PA. Millett received her BFA from Kent State University, Kent, OH and her MFA from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ.
