Ashley Smith, Ph.D.
Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Ashley Smith is a two-year visiting assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry. After completing her undergraduate degree at W&J, she went on to study inorganic materials chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. Her graduate research focused on the synthesis and characterization of colloidal noble metal nanoparticles, where she developed a technique for the quantification of ligands bound to nanoparticles. Ashley was then a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. During this time, she worked towards the design of liquid-based platforms to target and enhance the efficiency of fertilizer delivery to plant roots. In the Department of Chemistry, she teaches organic and inorganic classes and looks forward to working with students as they explore nanoscience research.
