Bernard Brooks is an Instructor for the English Language Institute at Washington & Jefferson College. Brooks holds a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Education, holding a Master of Education degree in Foreign Language Instruction and Master-level Teaching English as a Second Language Certification (M.Ed. + TESOL). He has taught ESL in the Pittsburgh region at the University of Pittsburgh, La Roche College, and now Washington & Jefferson College. He has also taught ESL in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at both Manarat International Schools and Umm al-Qura University. Brooks formally studied Arabic as a Second Language and holds advanced proficiency in Modern Standard and Classical Arabic according to the ACTFL National Standards.

Brooks strives to co-create, with his students, a structured student-centered communicative classroom environment. He enjoys translation of classical Arabic texts and working with local international communities. As a native Pittsburgher, he is, of course, an avid Steelers fan!
