Colleen Hyden, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Sociology

Degrees: Ph.D. and M.A. Sociology, University of Akron; B.A. Psychology, Hiram College

Colleen Hyden is an associate professor in the Department of Sociology. She has taught at W&J since 1987 and currently, her courses include Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Survey Research, the Family, Animals and Human Society, Sociology Practicum, and The Sociological Experience. Previously, she has taught Sex Roles, Social Research, Race & Ethnicity, Irish Culture and Society, The Role of Firearms in American Life and Lore, Intersession in Ireland, and Social Research in the Community.

Dr. Hyden has served on the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association and the Washington Women’s Shelter, and done volunteer work for the United Way, Akita Rescue, and various other community organizations.
