Art Education

Major

Students in the art education major take major courses in the Art and Art History Department and may seek Specialty Education (grades K-12) Certification in Art by completing an Education minor consisting of those courses required for Specialty Education (grades K-12) Certification.  The major fosters creativity of future educators in order that they may in turn nurture creativity and the awareness of art in their students. This program culminates with the exhibition of a body of work at the Senior Show in the Olin Fine Art Gallery each spring.

Art Education Snapshot

Beyond the Classroom

In addition to student teaching in local schools, Art Education majors have many opportunities to enrich their own classroom learning, including classes abroad in European art capitals like Paris and Berlin, annual trips to New York City led by the department, and individually designed trips and internships to enhance their studies of art.

Undergraduate coursework in this program also prepares students for graduate studies in fields such as studio art, art therapy, art conservation and museum studies.
