Mission Statement

Student Health & Counseling is committed to providing confidential, high-quality, ethical and culturally-sensitive outpatient wellness services to all Washington & Jefferson College students, so that they may optimally engage in the W&J education and all that active participation in a residential community offers to their growth and development. Our goal for wellness care is to help students thrive in their W&J education whenever possible by empowering them and fostering resilience.

To this end the Center offers a variety of outpatient health services for student physical, psychological, developmental and interpersonal needs as well as prevention education devoted to enhancing well-being for all students. In addition, the Center staff are dedicated to making a positive impact on the campus culture through collaboration, consultation and training for students, faculty, staff, and administrative members of the W&J community.

Scope of Services

In order to assure that all W&J students have access to care, the Student Health & Counseling Center provides low-barrier, quick-access initial assessment services with a health care professional.  After this initial consultation, students and their provider will collaborate in identifying and obtaining the services that best meet their needs in the least restrictive environment possible.

For both physical and psychological health, the Center provides short-term, solution-focused care for mild to moderate conditions that are common to traditional-aged college students. Those students who may need more intensive, ongoing, or specialty health and/or psychological services will be supported by Center staff in referral and collaboration with local community providers to meet the needs that are beyond the resources of the Student Health & Counseling Center. Student treatment plans are developed in collaboration with the Center staff and based on the nature and severity of the presenting concern, Center resources, equity issues, and best-practices in health care.

Students seeking physical health care can simply walk in to the Center during office hours. Students seeking counseling support can call for an appointment (724) 223-6107, walk in during the Urgent Care hour from 3 pm - 4pm  on weekdays, or use the “Schedule Now” button below to schedule a first appointment online.
