The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) recently announced the 2020-21 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award honorees. The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) was represented by the programs at Franciscan University (head coach Rick Carver), Thiel College (head coach Joe Schaly) and Washington & Jefferson College (head coach Jeff Mountain).
The Israeli national baseball team is set to play its first game at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics July 29, but the road that led it there began much earlier. Ryan Willen, a baseball player and coach from Pepper Pike, was at the forefront of Israel’s youth development program as early as 2017.
Washington & Jefferson College rising junior Tyler Horvat (Irwin, Pa. | Penn-Trafford) and Westminster College graduate student Frank Cinicola (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley) were named 2021 Academic All-America® honorees Tuesday afternoon, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The field is set for the High Point Regional in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. The six teams headed to Truist Point include Salisbury University, Washington & Jefferson, Birmingham-Southern, LaGrange, Lynchburg and Marymount, Va. Greensboro College will serve as the host institution for the regional.
Starter Nick Drake turned in a dominant performance and outfielder Tyler Horvat was the offensive catalyst as Washington & Jefferson defeated Saint Vincent College, 3-0, Saturday to claim the school’s 13th PAC baseball championship.

The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team completed a four-game sweep of Bethany College with a pair of wins Sunday afternoon at Ross Memorial Park. The sweep helped veteran head coach Jeff Mountain reach 500 wins for his coaching career.
We know we’re baseball fans at Washington & Jefferson College, with a men’s team went to the College World Series twice in the last three seasons and an equally skilled women’s softball team. But when senior Brooke Shuck ’20 decided to study our nation’s favorite pastime, she went overseas to do it
