(1/2 course)

The literary editing practicum allows students to study the crafts of literary evaluation and editing by collaborating to produce The Wooden Tooth Review, our annual journal of creative writing and visual art at W&J. In addition to reading submissions, evaluating their merits, and debating selections, students will also edit accepted work for style and substance and suggest revisions for the issue’s contributors. This course will also consider issues of organization within the journal, how literary magazines cultivate and challenge particular aesthetics, and how editors celebrate and promote the work of their authors beyond the confines of the printed book. This course may be repeated for credit once.
